As far as I know, I’ve only installed Flatpaks using the terminal. The most annoying thing about them for me is having to type out the fully-qualified name of the software (e.g. org.mozilla.firefox
instead of just firefox
), which is a very terminal-specific issue, LOL!

War with who? I’m posting this from Kubuntu and I’d happily agree with you that Snap should fuck off and die. (In particular, the backend being controlled by Canonical makes it objectively bad compared to Flatpak.) Even among people like me who tolerate Snap (for now…), I really don’t think you’re gonna find anybody who actually likes it, let alone enough to champion it.
Can’t start a war when there’s a consensus!

spoiler
- The main character being a refugee, with almost all that entails (can’t blame Doctorow for not anticipating it getting this bad)
- The dystopian collusion between the appliance-rentiers and the landlord, as well as the climax hinging on lack of tenant protections
- The way capitalism attempts to subsume all critique.
This is a story that’s important, that everybody needs to read.

I had the same thought and went with a HeaterMeter, although I haven’t finished building it yet.
grue@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•What sort of grill needs a firmware update lol3·2 days agoThere’s a universe where I attach some electronic controller with a PID loop or something to a smoker, to maintain consistent temperatures via damper control. I’m not buying that off the shelf built into the machine though.
I really ought to finish putting together my HeaterMeter.

You can download an stl for the battery cover.
The hackability and first-party endorsement thereof was another big underappreciated feature of the Steam Controller.
The idea behind a jar is that you’re saving up the grease to reuse later.
Eh, a small mason jar is tough enough to handle a few tablespoons of bacon grease or whatever without shattering. But sure, if you’ve got a lot of grease at once, let it cool down first (or better yet, refrigerate the pot roast or whatever it is you’ve made, so that you can just pull the grease off the top of the pot in one hardened puck).

Did we actually get worse, or have we always been this fucking ignorant?

It’s not even a very big house. It looks maybe 40’ or so wide and somewhat less deep, so I’m guessing it’s maybe 3000 sq. ft. total. I would almost hesitate to even bestow the status of ‘McMansion’ on it.
I’m sure they are. They have to be, unless they’re steel inside instead (which is unlikely), because you can’t make real stacked-stone masonry that skinny and have it be stable.
And that’s my problem with it: it’s fraudulent. Not even in an intentional “flouting the rules to make a modernist point” kind of way either; just out of ignorant and lazy design.
Grass does make flowers; they’re just typically really small (unless it’s something we’ve bred to be big, like corn or wheat).
For example, bermudagrass in flower:
As a DS9 fan, to me that sounds way meaner than you probably intended.
