Hi,

I am currently looking for a new chair I can game and work in. My old chair (70 €, 7 years ago) is now loosing its fake lether and little flakes are everywhere. I am willing to pay a premium.

I found the following chair I liked but I have never heard the brand Spawn before. Since I would like to buy this once and if possible a good product I would like to now if anybody has any experience. There is not even on Amazon a rating. And when I clicked through their vendors I couldn’t find any either. I think it is east European company. Maybe there is a language barrier I am facing, since on YouTube I couldn’t find any good reviews either.

Please internet, tell me if I’ll regret my choice if i would buy it.

For anyone who has advice here are my requirements:

  • Nice bum cushion
  • I am small so the height should be adjustable
  • Armrests
  • No fake leather please
  • Back should be high enough to lean my head against
  • Needs to look nice. Please no all black chairs. (Well actually I would like a chair which looks cool/cute/pleasant)
  • Rolls, if possible exchangeable
  • It doesn’t need to be a gaming chair
  • I want to sit on it legs crossed
  • Up to 500 but only if I fall in love immediately

Don’t buy a gaming chair, unless it’s the Logitech collaboration with Herman Miller Embody.

Reconditioned or office surplus Herman Miller or Steelcase chairs. Leap, Gesture, Aeron, Embody, Sayl. Look into em.

A gaming chair is just a cheap office chair with the color schema of a kid’s car seat.

The best gaming chair you can get is therefore an office chair, and there are plenty out there. I used IKEA chairs for quite a while, as they’re quite reasonably priced.

And as an aside, if you’re lucky and know the right people: The best office chairs are wheelhouse chairs from ships - They have to be comfy enough for someone to sit in comfortably for 12 hours, while being duranle enough to tolerate yhis for years. You just need to attach a wheel base. These chairs cost a small fortune, so the best approach is to fine someone decommissioning an ROV ship or similar where there’s a 24/7 control point somewhere that needs to be removed. A former coworker of mine lived close to the yard we were worling, and he ended up with a home office chair costing more than our annual paychecks combined.

Don’t get a gaming chair, they’re a scam that will destroy your back and fall apart quickly due to shitty materials and construction. Get a used Herman Miller office chair. Your back will thank you and you’ll have a chair that will actually last years.

Or if you’re in europe, Herman Miller might be overpriced, even on the second gand market. But there are loads of solid German chair brands where the same concept applies. I got good deal on an open box Interstuhl chair just before corona hit. Still looks brand new today

Can confirm. Just bought a gaming chair to replace an office chair that lost one of its arm rests.

      Just buy an office chair.

Another problem with gaming chairs is that some of them feel immediately comfortable when you sit in them for a few seconds/minutes.

If they’re not ergonomically designed (most aren’t), they’re actually not supporting you properly. This will lead to back pain etc.

Find the cutest high-quality office chair that fits your budget. Go used to save 50% or more

Go to your nearest furniture store and have a look through the office section. A good chair should have height and tilt adjustments for the backrest. Some can also tilt the seat.

If you really need color other than black, you can find office chair covers online.

Don’t buy a gaming chair. They’re cheaply made, extremely uncomfortable and will fuck up your back. Look for a good office chair,—or if you have a giant screen like me (40"+)—consider a recliner. It’s actually really comfortable with the keyboard in your lap and the mouse on an armrest (or side table next to the chair). That said, it’s not for everyone; in which case an office chair is your best bet.

Seriously, listen to everyone in here telling you not to buy a gaming chair. We’re saying this for a reason. They’re garbage.

Edit: I mean think about it for a minute: they’re modeled after racing seats. And what are racing seats used for? Short races. They’re not designed for extended sessions; they’re meant to keep you planted in your seat for 10 minutes at a time as you take turns at 80 MPH. Look at the kind of seats that Grand Touring cars have in them, for example: Unless the driver is young and never experienced back pain in their entire life, they’re usually not racing seats; any race driver will tell you that racing seats are not comfortable enough for extended tours.

Mine is good. But I paid the premium for it.

Would have been cheaper to get an office chair but just as nice, only less colourful.

The back on my Microcenter brand chair just died 2 weeks ago… I should check the warranty. 😑

It did come with white gloves to assemble lol.
