Sorry off topic, but any chance you could explain to me what’s the difference between up and down voting here Vs. karma? Are they not all just fake internet points?
No problem, when I talk about karma I mean the number on reddit that shows up on your profile for post karma / comment karma. There isn’t karma here. There is up voting and down voting but it will only reflect on that post and means nothing to your account overall!
Karma is the total upvotes - downvotes across all posts made by an account on reddit; on the fediverse there is only upvotes (likes or boosts depending on implementation) and downvotes (dislikes) per post. Theoretically you could calculate it for your account, but because you cant display it anywhere (and it isnt used for anything) it wouldnt be of much use.
On Reddit it seemed like the dumbest crap I posted always got up voted and anything not completely dumb got down voted, so I always was happy when something got down voted at least a bit.
You could post this comment with the reply and get that… nevermind there isn’t karma here.

Cool. I guess that means karma (upvote) farming shouldn’t be a thing.
Until someone makes another app that adds up all your comment and post upvotes for a total karma number lol

Incorrect info/ factoids skyrocketed to the top while the correct info buried in the middle at -1. The quintessential Reddit experience.
