I don’t understand how some people worship Pop idols and defend them against any criticism, doesn’t matter how many private jets you own if you end up taking the same amount of flights on one jet or three jets. one Private jet is already one too many in the context of combating climate change.
I haven’t said anything on the subject before, because I don’t care very much, but I don’t know what the alternative is supposed to be. It’s not like someone who is that famous can walk into a public airplane without putting her own safety at risk and causing trouble for other passengers.
It’s also well known that conservatives really hate her because she told her fans to vote and these memes are part of their effort to discredit her. Whether the point has any merit or not, it’s obvious who started the trend and who it’s helping.
- you don’t need to fly everywhere.
- you can totally fly first class. damn she can afford to have first class to herself.
- even if the private flight is the “logical” step, you can still critizise it. things can be complex.
- it’s a small and complex balance to keep supporting women in art and still shitting on billionaires, but we can do it.
Better than beans and Stroganoff.
…I think.
I missed stroganoff and beans. Have we done guacamole posting?
Be the change you want to see.
It’s less about “new content” on Lemmy and more about “I have a social media addiction and need constant content to satisfy my insatiable media habit”. A lot of us are guilty of this, me included.
Honestly, I’ve been enjoying not having an infinite amount of content to scroll through anymore. I get off of it a lot more and do other things. It’s been nice.
Plus, memes last longer on here. I started falling behind on Reddit every week. Here a meme might last up to a month
I’ve been meaning to ask… What’s up with the Taylow Swift = airplane memes?
She takes her private jet absolutely everywhere, to the detriment of the environment
Oh, ok. I was expecting something more damning, but I guess that goes against her public image.
Thanks.
Also her lawyers sent a letter to the person who tracks her flights to stop so that put her even more in the spotlight.
This is actually the real problem, which makes me feel like the memes are justified. They really didn’t start showing up til the C&D anyway (AFAIK).
I’m a feminist and left-leaning guy, I’m certainly not gonna go after her for being a woman or for her “politics”* - or appreciate jokes that seek to do so, as people are trying to imply in this case. But trying to avoid the deserved scrutiny of hiding her flight plans is pretty shitty and it’s fair to razz her for it
(* “go vote” is so barely politics it’s not worth truly acknowledging it as such)
