Boycotts don’t work and most big companies are just as bad as Nestle. I can’t be arsed to avoid all of them.
If you want them to change the only way is through legislation.

Hover
Pointless unintuitive feature that’s replaced with simple press and hold.
Iris scanner
Slow and unreliable compared to fingerprints. Anyone actually used it?
Air pressure/humidity sensor
Who needs these things? Weather apps work just fine. Rather use the space for battery.
IR blaster
Unless you’re looking to vandalize public tvs, just replace it with any number of wifi/bluetooth remotes.
Just saying there’s a reason features get the axe. Headphone jack is the only one I can sort of agree with, but I still rarely ever need one anymore. Bluetooth is just so much better.
And one thing all this debloating has led towards is larger battery capacity, which most older phones are sorely lacking.
To touch on this I think the sorting algorithms could do with some improvements, it shouldn’t be possible for one or two communities to completely take over the front page just because there’s a lot of activity on those communities.
I recall Reddit used to have a similar issue until they tightened it up.
For now just blocking the specific communities should do.
Clearly, it is.
Mastodon is definitely a harder sell than Lemmy due to the nature kf following people rather than subjects.
Problem with top sorts is that you miss out on smaller communities.
There isn’t a singular exercise. Maybe you just need to find the sport that suits you.
Personally I find going to the gym (which I assume to be the exercise you meant) rather unrewarding. I prefer to have some competition. Now I’m addicted to rowing.
Samsung offers 5 years of support nowadays. The other big manufacturers tend to be lacking in this regard however.
Both Samsung and Apple offer 5+ years of software support nowadays. It seems unreasonable to expect much more IMO. Devices don’t stop working after no longer receiving updates, and there is also the option of jailbreaking/installing custom ROMs for those who really care.
Not sure how removable batteries make a phone more flimsy. The back might pop off when you drop it, sure, but isn’t that preferable to having it crack?
Not to disturb the circus, but with some discipline and mental rewiring it’s not at all impossible to get your dopamine from healthy foods. Exercise is also an excellent source. Fast food might give you effortless happiness quickly, but a healthy lifestyle will be much more beneficial to your well-being in the long run.
I’m sorry but that is grossly untrue. Apple is pretty good at sweeping them under the rug but they’re absolutely no stranger to failed or underwhelming products. Remember AirPower? Or how about Homepod? Ping comes to mind as well. Those certainly didn’t demolish the wireless charger, home assistent or social media industry. Far from it.
Even many more succesful products can hardly be said to have demolished their entire industry. The iPhone might have won over the US, but everywhere else Samsung is king. Windows computers remain far more popular than any Mac. Even Airpods, while very innovative at the time, now have many succesful and often more affordable competitors.
The only spaces I’d say Apple is truly dominant is smart watches and tablets. But even then Garmin makes a better sports watch and 2 in 1 laptops eat into the tablet market.
We just have to wait and see where Vision ends up. In any case, until we can actually experience the device ourselves it is nothing more than a sales pitch.
Weird take. You’re still consuming the video. If you really wanted to consume less you’d get off youtube. Now you’re just saving them money.
For some chores, especially the heavy/sweaty kind, this can absolutely be true.
Cool to find a Spotify dev here. I agree with your points, and I’m a happy customer. I will happily support Spotify over the likes of Google and Apple, one of the few market dominant tech companies that hasn’t been swallowed up by one of the big 5. Not sure how they could be considered a monopoly, it’s not like there are songs out there exclusive to Spotify (thank god).
As far as I can tell there is only one big downside to Spotify, and I’m really sorry but I have to use this opportunity to ask, why on earth does it still not support 2FA??
For now it’s mostly donations. I imagine later down the line some instances might start running ads. Or even a subscription model to have an account. Who knows?
That’s the nice thing about the fediverse, all these instances can have their own ideas about how to monetize, and if one fails to stay upright another can always take its place.
They still do. Every single time I visit a google page.
