It basically already is because you know most people are just going to lookup a free VPN who has every motive to obtain as much information as possible about the user and sell it.

From a business standpoint I’ve noticed these two mindsets prevail:

With paid SaaS, there’s always somebody to blame for missing features or outages. From my POV either way the IT department is getting blamed if a system goes down, and the overconfidence in the vendor to fix all issues timely is not always realistic.

Business leaders have conditioned themselves to being sold something. With open source they still expect a CEO or some figurehead to give a presentation on how the free tool will benefit the company, even though it doesn’t make sense when there’s no incentive to sell.

They messed up 10 years ago when for some reason it took ages for Firefox to load compared to Chrome, and sadly it never really recovered the user base even though the performance is vastly improved.

It saves a ton of time. I’ve worked with clients before and I’ll put a lorem ipsum as a placeholder for text they’re supposed to provide. Then the client will send me a note saying there’s a mistake and the text needs to be in English. If the text is almost close enough to what the client wants, they might actually read it and send edits if you’re lucky.

Be careful with linseed oil as it spontaneously combusts! My friend used it on something and left the rag in the garage, and it literally burnt their house down.

So now they’re just charging people for what they were already doing anyway.

I started learning how to program when I asked myself how I could setup one web page template and include the content instead of copying the menus and logos on every page. Most people will never be observant enough to consider this might be how most big websites function, or how/why they would develop anything. There’s a tall gate that some people just walk right over.

At 5pm somebody once added an email that had an auto responder to a distribution list that was used in a lot of places. As I’m eating my dinner my phone is getting blown up because everything is suddenly getting spammed with delivery failures because the auto responder was getting blocked from blasting everybody on the distribution list. I was like, I’m sorry you’ve fabricated an urgent situation after hours but I’m gonna eat my chicken now.

Shoot and I thought my 30 second SQL queries were a problem

It’s getting ridiculous though like even gas stations are starting to ask. Like sorry why should I leave a tip to get a Snickers and bottle of water rung up?

Actually I just started doing this and got a 7 DVD changer. Same as what I spend in a month for all these random streaming services.

Which is interesting to say the least given that most cars from the past few years use LTE radios which will eventually work about as well as cars from the early 2000s with OnStar.

I feel like EEAAO was somehow engineered to get people to say they like it for no particular reason, it almost feels like they made a movie that would be a social faux pas to say you didn’t like it. But actually I found it super boring and it remains a mystery to me why top rated movies are what they are.

More than full retail most of the time! They’re not even bothering to compete with Walmart or Target anymore on the same products.

Oh and I love when I sort by price and half the results disappear.

Easy access to phone numbers? Did they flash an amnesia light to make them forget how Arabic numerals work? Literally all you have to do is look at a phone book to see what the valid area codes and exchanges are then robodial away.

But doesn’t Amtrak share the same rails with freight? Sure maybe the trains themselves are better maintained but if the rails themselves are in bad shape the train won’t get far.
