Anybody else 'round here securing a pre-order?

I snagged one from the meme stock store earlier today and JUST got the confirmation email so I think I’m good (fingers crossed I don’t get a cancelled order email later lmao)

After getting a Steam Deck my interest in the Switch 2 dropped significantly.

I love my Switch and all the great 1st party games I have for it, but I cant justify buying the Switch 2 right now.

It’s tough getting 50-85% discounted games on Steam and then go back to Nintendo and seeing games at full price years after release (I know I know “Nintendo games retain their value”).

Not only that but I need to prioritize bills and essentials over games right now. Even with games being $5-10 on Steam I decide against it since I can use that towards groceries, gas, or utilities.

I don’t want one right now. Didn’t see any reason to buy it day one which is not like me, but finances are tight so I can’t really see splurging right now. My friend was all over it though and shockingly enough he said he was able to get it last night from Walmart after waiting in an online queue for 45 min and totally expected the worst.

The console looks like a nice upgrade and I’ll get one eventually, but with most games also releasing on Switch 1 at least for a while and not much announces for it that interests me right now, coupled with a personal financial situation that prevents me from comfortably affording a console regardless of its price, I can wait on it for now.

Set a reminder but then my phone was in do not disturb and I forgot. D’oh. Oh well, I can wait.

I wasn’t planning on buying one at launch. There’s nothing must-play on day one. I have plenty of backlog on my Switch (not to mention every system that came before it 😒) to play. And my financial situation is not great right now. I figured I’d get one eventually. But the ongoing shitshow in the Orange House has me seriously questioning how viable waiting it out would be. Who knows what the price is going to be by the end of the year? (I know Nintendo makes an easy target for the collective internet hate-boner, but this is a valid question for all electronics purchases in the US.) So I made sure the money was there and was able to get a preorder last night. If something fucky happens in the next few weeks, it’s easy enough to cancel. If something fucky happens after release… well, at least I got one. If my Switch 1 is anything to go by, it’ll be a good entertainment investment.

I’m just buying one to store for future exploits honestly, launch day console are often the best especially for hardware based exploits

That’s what happened with the Switch 1, pretty big exploit in the NVIDIA tegra chip, but only on early revisions

I’m keeping my v1 Switch for that reason, though I have yet to do anything about it. Maybe some day out of principle.

Couldn’t get through on any site last night. But, I’m signed up for the Nintendo preorder on 5/8 so I feel pretty good I’ll get one of those.

And if not, whatever. They’ll make more, I’ll get one eventually.

I tried BestBuy and Walmart at midnight but they were having issues and was sleeping by the time it was resolved

GameStop I snagged because they didn’t start theirs till 11AM EST and I devtooled the “Not Available” button to be enabled and it worked lmao

        I can respect that 😂

Can confirm that Best Buy was messed up, the page repeatedly crashed the app. Target had availability for about 45 minutes I think. Yeah, I know Target bad. But Walmart and GameStop also bad. Nintendo bad.

        …me bad?

Is anyone (other than maybe Nintendo) setting up a wait list for buying systems as they restock? I would not mind getting at the back of that line.

There aren’t any release window games I want, but I may want one by the holidays or next year, once more games are released.

Pre ordered the day it was available here in the UK, so excited for release day! Just wondering from everyone who pre ordered in the US, did you have some stores do in person pre orders only too? Here, Currys (major electronics retailer) did in person pre orders only, which I thought was a good idea to prevent scalping as the online stock everywhere was bought up nearly immediately.

Best Buy (Similar to your Currys) was doing in store preorders and GameStop was as well

Walmart and Target weren’t afaik and none were doing exclusively in-person pre-orders
