Just give a quick “oh, thank you” in a pleasant, surprised tone. Comes off as gracious, but not conceited. Unless it’s something you can’t help, then it’s more charming if you act like it’s a skill in a cheeky way. I.e “wow you’re tall”

“Thanks I’ve been working on it”

It’s worth noting, you’ll come off as more awkward if you try to fire back a compliment yourself. It came organically to them, and isn’t necessary to mirror, unless you feel like they’re fishing.

A word of advice. Either compliment them back or better simply say Thank you. Thank you is the best responce to a compliment.

Do I hate the answer-my-own-question format of explaining things? Passionately

Just don’t make a big deal about it. A simple ‘Thanks’, or, if you’re feeling really strongly about it, ‘Thanks so much’. That’s it, don’t go anywhere else with it or call it out with some special recognition. Unless it’s sexual favors, that’s cool too.

This, but even that can become weird some how. I have a friend who sometimes said I was handsome and I replied with a “thank you” every time, but one time did my friend feel it was enough and told me off by saying “you only say thanks!” I was unsure what to answer and said “well I don’t believe it but I am thankful for you to think so” never got a “you are handsome” ever again after that xD

Unsure, she isn’t really the kind to do such things. I never asked why. Maybe I didn’t seem happy or taking her words seriously. Maybe it felt pointless to compliment me or frustrating to give a compliment to someone who only says thanks all the time or all of them above?

this reminds me of what i like about public voting… that one guy who upvoted my stupid comment that nobody else liked, two days after i made it… i go visit that guy’s profile and upvote a couple of his, or at least check out what that person is concerned about…

that seems aweful. I don’t want someone to randomly upvote some of my stuff because I found something they put was up voteable. It should be more organic than that.

um. ok then. it really did not upset me in a close to my heart effect me every day type of way. More I can’t believe people do this. I assume anyone upvoting me did it because they are part of the magazine and found what I said was upvotable regardless of if my handle posted it or any other. Im just not a fan of in clubs and popularity contests is all.

i’m not starting popularity clubs… stop being fatuous and pretending to be idealistic, just for the sake of having an argument and looking slick on the internet… you’re full of shit, and even worse you’re a slave to consensus…
